Saturday, June 30 Blind Channel Resort to Port Harvey 4 hours 42 miles

We talked to the folks on “Lucky Puppy”, a beautiful blue-hulled 41’ American Tug, about where to go next.  They said that Port Harvey has a marvelous marine resort and we should try it.  OK.  We will.  We were in Johnstone Straight most of the time.  There were hundreds of logs and debris to navigate around.  By 2:00 pm the wind was up to 28 kts and we had 2’ chop.  We were happy to turn into Havannah Channel and get into calm water.  We have never been into Port Harvey (on East Craycroft Island) so our plan is to anchor out and take the dinghy in to investigate.  The bay is rather shallow but we got a good bite with the anchor.  We could see the Port Harvey Marine Resort and decided to go over and check it out.  The resort is only 4 years old and looks nice.  When we went to tie up the dinghy the owner, George, came over and kindly said that there was a $5 fee for using his dock and trails and $0.85/foot on the dock.  This seemed reasonable.  We took Merlin for a walk.  The docks look new but there is no power or water, yet.  George has big plans to add these as well as a fuel barge.  They have a very nicely stocked store carrying food & produce as well as “boat stuff”.  We took the boardwalk over to land.  They said this place is very dog friendly and even have a roll of “poopie bags” for use.  There a couple of very nice homes here but the bugs and mosquitoes are ferocious.  We let Merlin loose for a bit and made haste back to the dock.  I don’t know why but the bugs stay on the land.  We said we would bring the boat over to the dock in the morning and stay there to celebrate Canada Day.  When we returned to the boat we saw that at low tide we were in 15’ of water.  This made us nervous so moved over to the dock.  The dock was less than half full when we arrived.  Other boaters came out to grab lines and the wind was pushing us on the dock so my job was quite easy.  We still use our headsets to communicate during docking.  They have a licensed (can serve alcohol) restaurant called the Red Shoe.  If you bring a red shoe for them to nail to the wall one gets a free dessert.  Unfortunately I don’t have a red shoe for them.  We will next time.  We made reservation to eat at 7 pm this evening.  We had very good cod fish & chips and awesome pineapple cheesecake.  Apparently George is a baker too.  Boy George and Gail stay busy.
